Language, Culture and Identity

Join us to learn how to create a classroom that values language, culture, and identity. Building strong, positive relationships is at the core of understanding language, culture, identity and equity. This training will be conducted in English only.

Promoting Language and Learning for Dual Language Learners through Play

Event Dates: 5/15/23
6:00-8:00PM

During this training, participants will explore the strategic use of play as a learning strategy. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the benefits of play for Dual Language Learners, including providing a safe space to take risks, share stories, and collaborate with peers to develop vocabulary. By the end of the session, participants will understand their responsibility to plan for and create environments that are inclusive of diverse learners and communities.

Self-Paced Courses

Module 1: Brain Development and Dual Language Learning

Self-paced Course

In this course, participants will examine the science behind dual language learning. It is important for ECE educators to understand how and why the early years are a critical time for language and literacy development for young dual-language learners. Participants will also examine the importance of early experiences in supporting early brain architecture for dual language learners.

Module 2: Bilingualism and the Benefits for Young Children

Self-paced Course

In this course, participants will review definition of bilingualism and other related key terms. It is important for ECE educators to understand bilingualism and the process for children learning more than one language. Participants will identify the benefits of bilingualism when languages learned are being consistently used and supported in the child’s home and school setting.

Dual Language Learner Initiative: Family Workshop #1 – Our Home Language is Important

Self-paced Course

The Dual Language Learner Initiative’s Family Workshops are designed to support families of young children (0-5 years) who are interested in learning about raising bi-/multi-lingual learners. These interactive workshops provide information and resources to help families make the best choices for their children.

  • If you need an ECE Workforce Registry profile, click this link.
  • Having an ECE Workforce Registry ID allows you to track any training and PD hours complete through the ECE Registry without having to keep track of certificates or other paperwork after each course.
