Health & Well-Being

Ensuring that children and families have access to health care and resources is an important part of making sure all children have a quality start in life.  The health resources below are designed to help you support the families at your programs.

Immunization Resources

Children in California are required to receive certain immunizations to attend child care and pre-school. We would like to provide some resources to help you encourage returning and newly enrolled children to catch up on required immunizations, and make sure that they are up to date with their recommended vaccines, including COVID vaccine. If you have any scheduled parent communications going out this summer, please consider adding a reminder for parents to add making a vaccine appointment to their Summer to-do lists.

Below you will find some immunization education materials as well as resources to help your families locate a vaccine clinic if they are unable to make an appointment with their pediatrician or medical home, or if they do not currently have a medical home.

If you require further assistance finding immunization resources, please contact SchoolSupport@ph.lacounty.govFurthermore, if families in your facility are finding it challenging to obtain required immunizations and you would like to host a vaccine clinic at your site, please contact SchoolSupport@ph.lacounty.gov for more information.

Help Me Grow LA

First 5 LA and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health are joining with partners to make sure all children get connected to the services they need. Help Me Grow LA supports all families in promoting young children’s development and lifelong success by connecting them to developmental services and supports that promote their child’s well-being.

Small Steps for Big Vision: An Eye Health Information Tool Kit for Parents and Caregivers

The National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health at Prevent Blindness partnered with the National Head Start Association to create an online resource – Small Steps for Big Vision: An Eye Health Information Tool Kit for Parents and Caregivers – to provide parents and caregivers with the information, suggested actions, and assistance they need to be empowered partners in their children’s vision and eye health, and to care for their own vision and eye health.
