FAMILIES TOGETHER FOR KIDS IN LA OVERVIEW

What is Families Together for Kids in LA County?

Families Together for Kids in LA County gives parents and families of young children the opportunity to shape the future for children in LA County. Families who register will periodically receive short surveys to share information on what it’s like to be a caregiver of young children in LA County, and how to make LA County better for families.

Registered families can choose to receive surveys by text message or email. At most, there will be one survey distributed every 4-6 weeks, and families can choose which surveys they want to respond to. You can choose to opt out at any time.

Who is leading the Families Together for Kids in LA County campaign?

Families Together for Kids in LA County is brought to you by Quality Start LA in partnership with First 5 LA and the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

How will my opinions and responses be used?

By registering to become a participant of Families Together for Kids in LA County and responding to the follow up survey and/or other opportunities, you can:

  • help improve early care and education services for children and families living in LA County
  • help shape child care and preschool programs in LA County and supports for the people who work there
  • help inform how public agencies in LA County spend funds to provide better services for children and families
Who is eligible to participate?

Individuals who are involved in raising a child ages 0-8, living in Los Angeles County, are eligible to participate. Participants can be biological parents, foster parents, adopted parents, legal guardians, or relatives that are involved in caring for a child.

How many surveys will there be?

In addition to the registration survey, there will be at most one survey distributed every 4 to 6 weeks. Participants can complete as many or as few as they like.

What is the time commitment as a participant of Families Together for Kids in LA County?

The initial registration survey is expected to take 3-7 minutes. Following surveys will likely take 5-10 minutes to complete. There may be additional opportunities for discussion groups and input sessions. These opportunities are optional and may take between 15-60 minutes.

How will I be notified of new surveys?

As part of the registration survey, you can select your preference for continued contact – text or email. We will send links to surveys to the contact option you select.

How do I take the surveys?

Survey links will be sent via text or email. The surveys can be taken on your phone, tablet, or computer. For the survey to work on your phone, you must have a ‘smartphone’ with connection to the internet (either through data or wifi).

PARTICIPATION INCENTIVES

What do I get for participating?

By completing the registration, you get a chance to win a $50 gift card. After that, for every survey you complete as a part of this program, you will receive a $5 gift card.

As a participant of Families Together for Kids in LA County, you will also have the opportunity to speak on behalf of children in Los Angeles County. As a parent or caregiver, you are an expert on raising children in LA. By participating and sharing your experiences, you will help shape decisions for services, child care and preschool programs, and tax dollars, as mentioned above.

DATA & SECURITY

Can the survey links contain viruses?

The surveys are all created and distributed by the Families Together for Kids in LA County team. The links will not include viruses. The links will only take you directly to the survey.

Why is information asked about my income, location, race/ethnicity, etc?

The goal of Families Together for Kids in LA County is to ensure that parents and caregivers are speaking up on behalf of all children in Los Angeles County. To ensure diverse parent and family voices are included, we ask certain questions about income, location, race/ethnicity, etc.

How will my information be used?

Your information will never be shared or sold for other purposes. Family responses will be grouped together and individual names will not be tied to any particular response.

Where are my responses stored?

Any data received through the survey will be securely stored by Families Together for Kids in LA County. Personal information will never be shared. No personally identifying information submitted as part of Families Together for Kids in LA County will ever be distributed.
