Basic Questions

What is an Online Course? What is an Instructor Led Course (ILC)?

An “Online Course” is a self-paced course that you take online.  These courses are not live and not led by an instructor.  This could be a video or other learning activity, often accompanied by an assessment or quiz. You can take these courses at any time. You can pause and exit a course before completion, and the system will save your progress.

An “Instructor Led Course” (or “ILC”) is another term for a live training. These courses are led by an actual instructor, so you must be in attendance at a specific time and date. This could be an in-person training at a specific location, or a virtual training (often using Zoom) using a specific link to access the event. Some ILCs will have multiple sessions available for you to select, so you can find one that best fits your schedule, while others will only be offered once, based on the availability of the trainer.

Can the Courses in QSLA Connect go towards college credit or applications for stipend programs?

No.

QSLA Connect courses are meant to support the professional development of early educators. Each course offers varying amounts of Professional Development hours (dependent on content length) through the ECE Workforce Registry. Those PD hours will automatically be added to your ECE Registry Profile within 2 weeks of completing an eligible course. These courses do not count for CEUs or towards college degrees.

Can I stop taking a self-paced course and finish at another time? Will it start where I left off?

Yes. As long as you have internet access, QSLA Connect will save your progress as you work through the course. Even if you are in the middle of watching a video, you can pause the video, exit the website, and log back on later to finish watching the video.

Can I take a course more than once?

If you’ve completed a course, it will be marked as “Completed” in QSLA Connect for 6 months. You can review a completed course any time, but you will not receive Professional Development Hours for reviewing completed courses.

Once six months have passed, you should be able to re-enroll in the course. You would then be able to receive PD Hours for an additional completion of the same course.

Enrollment

Where can I find courses to take?

Within QSLA Connect, you can find courses to take in the Catalog. You can get to the Catalog from the Catalog dashboard tile or from the dropdown menu.

You may also find new courses in promotional materials sent from Quality Start Los Angeles, and by searching on the ECE Registry’s Training Calendar for “Web-based Self-Paced” courses or “Web-based Time Specific courses.” If you enroll in a QSLA Connect course through the ECE Workforce Registry, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to enroll in the course on the QSLA Connect website.

How do I enroll in a course?

There are two ways to enroll in a course:

1. From the Catalog, find a course you would like to enroll in, then hit the Enroll button.

2. Using an Enrollment Link, you can simply click on the Enrollment Link, and it will send you to QSLA Connect, and automatically enroll you (once you’ve logged in).

Go to My Courses, if you want to double-check that you’ve been enrolled.

Where can I find the courses I have enrolled in?

You can go to My Courses to find the courses you’ve enrolled in. You can get to My Courses by clicking on the My Courses dashboard tile or the dropdown menu.

Instructor Led Courses (ILCs)

Where can I find Instructor Led Courses?

You can find Instructor Led Courses (or ILCs) in the same place you find Self-Paced Courses, in the Catalog. If you want to exclude Online Courses (or Self-Paced Courses) from your list, you can sort the Catalog results using filters to just look for Instructor Led Courses. Just be aware that some ILCs may be part of a Curriculum or Course Bundle and require you to take all courses in that Curriculum, not just the one selected.

I just signed up for an Instructor Led Course, why can’t I access it?

There are two possible answers to this question, and you should answer them for yourself in this order:

  1. If you have enrolled in an Instructor Led Course (or ILC) from the QSLA Catalog, you may still need to select a Session for the ILC. Find the course in My Courses, then Choose Session. This should show you the available Sessions. You can then Enroll for a specific time, date, and location.
  2. If you are already enrolled in a Session for the ILC, remember that this is a Live Training, which means that it takes place at a specific time, date, and location. Click on the Session to view details of where and when your ILC Session will take place.

Registry ID

I don’t have an ECE Workforce Registry ID. How do I sign up for one?

If you do not have a Workforce Registry number? Go here!

If you have questions about how to create a profile, you can watch a brief video explaining the process or read the step by step instructions here (Available in English, Spanish, and Mandarin).

Once you’re ready to create a profile, click the Create a Profile button.

Once you obtain your Workforce Registry profile and have your new Registry ID, return to QSLA Connect and go to your Profile to add your Registry ID.

You’ll then be able to add your Registry ID number by editing your profile.

NOTE: Please use your exact CA ECE Workforce Registry ID and be sure that your name is the same on your Registry account and on your QSLA Connect Profile.  This will help us ensure we give you credit in the Registry for all completed courses.

How do I add my Registry ID to my profile?

Adding your Registry ID to your QSLA Connect profile is not required to take courses on the site, but it is necessary in order to receive Professional Development Credit Hours for courses you complete. To check that your Registry ID is listed on your profile, click on the profile icon on the toolbar in the upper right corner of the screen:

Scroll down to see the Registry ID field. If your Registry ID isn’t there, simply click Edit Profile on the left side of the screen to add it.

Where do I find my Registry ID on the ECE Registry?

To find your Registry ID, first go to the Registry homepage and log in. Under Quick Links, click “View/Print Membership Card (PDF)”, as indicated in the image below.

Then follow the “Click here” link to open a PDF version of your Registry ID card, which will list your Registry ID number in the upper right corner. We recommend taking a picture of or printing your ID card so you have the number easily accessible for future use.

Professional Development Hours (PD Hours)

How do I get Professional Development credit for Instructor Led Courses? How do I get Professional Development credit for self-paced courses?

These are very important questions.

If you have provided a Registry ID when enrolling, please do NOT download and submit any transcripts or certificates to the ECE Workforce Registry.

All training completions, for both self-paced courses and Instructor Led Courses, will be added into the Registry by QSLA staff, and those Professional Development hours will show up directly on your Registry Profile within 2 weeks of course completion.

NOTE: ECE Bridge Program training hours are posted on a monthly basis.  Please allow up to 30 days for your training hours to be posted for all ECE Bridge Program trainings.  If you need your training hours posted earlier for any reason, please contact your training instructor.

What do I do if I don’t see my PD credit hours on my ECE Registry profile?

All training completions will be logged in the Registry by QSLA staff and those professional development hours will show up directly on your Registry Profile within 2 weeks of course completion. In order for our staff to connect your attendance record on QSLA Connect to your ECE Registry account, your Registry ID must be listed on your QSLA Connect profile.

If you need your PD credit hours sooner, please contact us at qslaconnect@qualitystartla.org.

If it’s been more than 2 weeks, check that your Registry ID is correct in your QSLA Connect Profile. You can do so by clicking Profile from the drop-down menu.

If your Registry ID was incorrect, or if you believe you have not been given PD credit, in error, please contact us at qslaconnect@qualitystartla.org.

Access Issues

How can I access QSLA Connect in another language?

Simple! If you scroll down to the bottom of any part of the QSLA Connect site, you’ll see the Languages button on the bottom left.

Click here and a menu will pop up. This allows you to choose English, Spanish, or Chinese to access and engage with the QSLA Connect platform. This will not change the language of course content, only QSLA Connect’s buttons, menus, and some links will change. We currently only offer courses in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

Which browsers and devices does QSLA Connect support?

Browser:

  • Chrome (Desktop/Mobile/Tablet)
  • Internet Explorer 11 (Desktop/Tablet/Mobile
  • Edge
  • Firefox (desktop)
  • Safari (macOS/iOS)

Learn Mobile App:

  • Android (tablet/mobile)
  • iPhone
  • iPad
I got an error message that says “Your lesson has failed to load”. What should I do?
  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Check that you have completed all the previous learning objects. (Most courses are not designed to let you skip around to different sections and are meant to be taken in order.  Thus, if you have not completed the previous section, you may not be allowed to continue to another one).
What if I lose internet connection while taking a course?

Most of the time, QSLA Connect will save your progress in a course if you close the site while in the middle of a course.  However, if you lose internet connection while taking a self-paced course, you may have to start your activity, chapter, or course over again.

Inactive User Policy

To make sure that QSLA Connect accounts are prioritized for active learners, we will be regularly deactivating the accounts of inactive users. A user is considered inactive when they have not logged in, enrolled in and/or completed a course in more than 6 months. Deactivated accounts are deleted after 12 total months of inactivity, but can be reactivated before reaching a year of inactivity. This process will happen automatically, for affected users, on the first day of each month, starting on May 1st, 2022.

A deactivated user’s Professional Development Credit Hours and any completed courses are preserved in QSLA Connect. A deleted user’s QSLA Connect data will be lost, but their credit hours earned will still be displayed in their ECE Registry account. If you attempt to log in after being deactivated, you will receive the error message “You have entered an invalid username and/or password. Please try again.” If you see this message and you believe your account has been deactivated in error or would prefer your account remain active, email qslaconnect@qualitystartla.org and provide us with the email address associated with your account. We will be happy to reactivate your account for you.The best way to avoid deactivation or deletion in the future is to remain active on QSLA Connect, enrolling in and completing courses. If you have any questions about this or any other QSLA Connect policy, please feel free to reach out to qslaconnect@qualitystartla.org.
